First off, there are a lot of vendors. Don’t be overwhelmed, but go with a plan. Don’t waste time meandering about the trade show floor. Look at the list of exhibitors and see if they are taking appointments. Often, you’ll be able to book in a ten or fifteen minute consultation with vendor reps so that you can learn about their product or service and ask questions in a one-on-one environment.

Show up with questions from your residents. Industry and thought-leaders gather at trade shows so bring concerns and questions from your board members and residents. They will thank you!

Be prepared: yes, companies are selling their services and products at trade shows. If you’re not interested, simply gather information and move on to your next appointment.
