It’s the time of year when many people think about get together’s! Here are some quick ideas for throwing an amazing holiday party in a small space…

  1. Make it a Pot Luck: there’s nothing like an open kitchen with island seating for eight. But until that refurbished farmhouse dream becomes a reality, let’s work with what we have. Small spaces usually come with small ovens and even smaller prep areas; invite guests to bring hors d’oeuvres, appetizers, or even side dishes. It will save on time, preparation, and undoubtedly be a fun collaborative effort. (Tip: use your condo’s common areas or resident portal to reach out to the community and ask for ideas on themes, recipes, and other tips to make it a memorable event.)

  2. Use smaller decorations and accent lighting. A warmer, dimmer light is cozier overall and serves to mask any imperfections you might be concerned about such as a less-than-pristine carpet or chipped bookshelves. Don’t have any small lamps or accent lighting? Ask your community! Put up a sign in the lobby or post it on your condo’s community forum; if your building doesn’t have a way to sell or swap items, why not start one? It’s a great way to meet people and engage with your community.

  3. How about using a common area? Ultimately, your space might be just too small to host the type of soirée you’re hoping to have. Look into booking a common area in your condo building but don’t limit yourself to the standard party room; see what else is available and, chances are, you can get creative with the management team. Maybe there’s a waiting area off to the side that would be perfect, or perhaps the Pilates studio is available. (Bonus: common areas in condo communities are most likely already decorated for the holidays so that’s one less thing you have to worry about.)
